What is a Swinging Ball?

If you play cricket , you should get a chance to have a go at bowling so to do that you first have to decide whether you want to be a fast/pace bowler or spin ( leg spin or off spin ). Made your decision? O.K. so if you are a pace/fast bowler then this is the correct  information/knowledge for you. In the next paragraph ,I will be telling you what is a swinging ball.

A swinging ball is a ball that moves in the air so if you like football, then when you curve it into the goal, that is a bit like swing but related to cricket ( bowling ). There are 2 types of swinging balls called outswingers and inswingers . An inswinger is a ball which moves towards the pads of the batsman after pitching and an outswinger is a ball which moves away from the batsman after pitching . In the next paragraph, I will be introducing what it does to the batsmen.

The point/purpose  of the outswinger  is to get a catch/nick  to the wicketkeeper  or the fielders at the slips position. The reasons for bowling an inswinger is to hit the wickets ( bowled out ), to get LBWs ( leg before wicket ) or an inside edge/nick  to the wicketkeeper or onto the stumps.

How to bowl a leg spinner

First, you need to grip the ball: To grip the ball, you need to make your index and middle finger tips to be touching the seam with a gap between them. Your fourth and little fingers should be far from your middle finger on the left hand side. Your thumb is to support your finger, you put it near your index finger on your right hand side for a right handed bowler and it’s the opposite for a left handed bowler.

Next, releasing the ball: While releasing the ball, you must turn your hand, wrist and release the ball. Before that you must bring your arm round ( straight arm ). Last but not least you need to get your back foot forward to make it in line with your front foot ( if you’re a right handed bowler you bring your right foot forward, if you’re a left handed bowler you bring your left foot forward ). Thank you for reading my story today and please look out for my next story.
